Beast from the east: Is your car insured during a Red Weather Warning? Here’s your insurance guide for Storm Emma

Many people tonight are querying on social media whether their cars and indeed houses will be insured during the beast from the east and especially during Storm Emma which is rapidly coming towards the country.

An insurance expert told The Liberal the following:
“Firstly, people shouldn’t be going out on the roads as advised by the government. However, if they deem it absolutely necessary to go out then yes, their cars should be insured during a Red Weather Warning – however, they should still try and get clarification from their individual insurance company as with the Red Weather Warning so prominent, insurance companies could try and say people were reckless and using their motor vehicle when advised not to”.

In regards to house insurance:
“Yes, house insurance will be covered for storms, they are generally covered by all house insurance policies”.

The bottom line however is to avoid driving if at all possible – especially between 4pm Thursday and midday on Friday.
