Beautiful refurbished properties house 230 Ukrainian refugees, govt confirms

About 230 Ukrainians recently moved into five renovated buildings as part of the Emergency Renewal Ukraine project, reports RTE.

At least 70 beds in the facility have not yet been opened.

It is understood that five properties are used to provide family accommodation.

Real estate is the first five out of 64 medium and long-term projects selected for implementation under the program.

The Department of Housing, which oversees the renovation of the property, estimated that the five properties could house 328 people.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the Integration Department, which is responsible for moving Ukrainian refugees into full facilities, said “approximately 301 beds have been made available,” reports RTE.

The spokesperson said “the remaining beds are not currently in use at the moment for various reasons” including that “certain properties have only recently come on-stream, on occasion it takes longer to match the make-up of family groupings to the available room set-ups” and Ukrainian Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection (BOTPs) may move on to alternate accommodation as a result of family reunification,” reports RTE.

Figures released by the housing department show that as of May 31, the remaining 59 “medium to long-term renovation projects” are under consideration or under construction.

Currently, only five more are under construction and are estimated to bring 187 additional beds.

Tenders are underway for another 18 projects, which are estimated to provide housing for 945 people.

Figures show that surveys were received for seven more schemes with a total estimated capacity of 238 beds.

The remaining 29 schemes are “under review” and the department’s estimated bed capacity for these schemes is 1,236.

In total, the department estimates that when the 64 projects are completed, it will gain approximately 2,934.

“This is done in line with agreed parameters for maximum site capacity and cognisant of the provision of suitable accommodation for residents and family groupings,” the spokesperson stated, reports RTE.
