Thee was some good news for irish fans today as the Mayor of Paris has officially announced that the Republic of Ireland will be awarded the Medal of the City of Paris.
The prestigious honour is being given in reconignition of the Irish supporters great sportsmanship . According to the French newspaper L’Équipe, the city’s Mayor Anne Hidalgo said the Irish supporters had been “exemplary in their sportsmanship” and distinguished themselves by the “atmosphere” they created from the start of Euro 2016.
It is understood Mayor Hidalgo has written to President Michael D Higgins to tell inform him of the award.
