There are strong calls from leading Dublin City Councillors for new Luas trams that would operate by themselves.
Councillors are calling on the Government to provide the new trams in the wake of the recent Luas strike. The call is being led by Fine Gael Councillor Dr Paddy Smyth who will submit the new motion to the Transport Minister.
Dr Smyth said: “Essentially, ensure that any new rolling stock is future-proof, so that it can be fitted with self-driving software, so that in the future we could move to a point where our trams could, essentially, drive themselves.”
