In sad news, Beverly Hills 90210 star Shannen Doherty has said that her cancer has returned three years after she went into remission.
According to the Daily Mirror, Ms Doherty spoke about her recent diagnosis on Good Morning America when she revealed that she is now fighting Stage 4 breast cancer. She explained that while she kept her diagnosis private for some time, she had decided to make it public herself before it could come out in the course of an upcoming legal case involving a claim against an insurance company.
Explaining her decision to make her illness known, Ms. Doherty said:
“I’d rather people hear it from me. I want it to be real and authentic…I want to control the narrative. I want people to know from me.”
Beverly Hill 90210 was a hugely popular TV show with a loyal fan base. This news will come as a second shock to them after the sudden death of actor Luke Perry, who played Dylan on the show and who passed away after a shock stroke at just 52. Ms Doherty’s played Dylan’s girlfriend, Brenda, and after his passing she shared her sadness in online messages.
The Daily Mirror reports that Ms. Doherty has courageously shared pictures on social media as she received treatment for her illness previously. No doubt her fans will be sending her good wishes and support as she continues her fight against this devastating disease.
