One of the worst stories ever to be broadcast on Irish television, brave Galway woman Sophia Murphy told of the horrendous abuse her own father inflicted on her.
Starting at just 3 and a half years old, Sophia said that her brutal father sexually molested her endlessly, even on First Holy Communion Day.
Almost incomprehensible but sadly true, Sophia’s own sadistic father molested her, raped her and abused her.
Sophia told of how she was pulled between loving and hating her father for what he did but was completely conflicted as it was her father.
Eventually Sophia got the courage to go to the gardai and tell them about the unspeakable things that he did to her. She said she even felt sorry for him when she saw him in court and even wanted to go and hug him.
Sophia’s father got 18 years in jail for the horrific abuse that he inflicted on her. The mother of a 16-yr-old daughter herself, Sophia spoke candidly and bravely throughout the entire interview.
