US President Joe Biden has said he plans to rerun for president in 2024, but was not yet ready to announce it.
In an interview with NBC’s “Today” show, Biden said, “I plan on running but we’re not prepared to announce it yet,” reports RTE.
The president has said he wants to be the Democratic nominee in 2024, but he hasn’t made a formal announcement.
Both Mr. Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris have said they will run together.
NBC News, citing multiple unnamed sources, reported that top White House advisers are ready to make a final decision on resuming Biden’s re-election campaign.
“The decision part is over, but he resents the pressure to have to announce what he’s already decided,” one source familiar with the matter told NBC, reports RTE.
Mr. Biden defeated Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election.
His victory in the battlefield state of Pennsylvania brought him close to the 270 Electoral College votes he needed to win the White House.
Last November, Trump announced a third run for president.
He filed his official documents with the United States Election Authority before confirming his candidacy, reports RTE.
Leaving Ireland last night, Biden again told reporters that he had “done the calculous” and that he was planning to “run for Office again in 2024”.
