In an effort to strengthen Israel’s air defences in the wake of Iranian missile strikes, the US has stated that it will give the nation a sophisticated anti-missile system along with US personnel to man it, reports RTE.

Sending the equipment, according to US President Joe Biden, is “to defend Israel.”

Israel’s integrated air defence system will be strengthened by the installation of a Terminal High-Altitude Area Defence (THAAD) battery, according to Pentagon spokesman Pat Ryder.

“It is part of the broader adjustments the U.S. military has made in recent months, to support the defense of Israel and protect Americans from attacks by Iran and Iranian-aligned militias,” Mr Ryder said in a statement, reports RTE.

It occurs at the same time as Hezbollah claims to have used a “swarm of drones” to strike the Golani Brigade camp of the Israeli military in Binyamina, northern Israel.

Four individuals were reportedly in serious condition, according to the head of the ambulance service, while at least 67 people were reported injured, according to Israel’s N12 News channel.

Hezbollah alleged that in retaliation for Israeli assaults, which included airstrikes on the central Beirut areas of Basta and Nweiri that claimed 22 lives on Thursday, it fired “a squadron of attack drones at a training camp… in Binyamina, south of Haifa,” reports RTE.

51 people were killed by Israeli attacks in Lebanon yesterday, according to the country’s health ministry.

Israeli tanks reportedly burst through a barrier to approach a Blue Helmet position in Lebanon today after obstructing their passage the previous day, according to UN troops stationed there.

In the Ramia region of southern Lebanon, “two IDF (Israeli military) Merkava tanks destroyed the position’s main gate and forcibly entered the position at around 4.30am (01.30 GMT), while peacekeepers were in shelters,” according to the UNIFIL peacekeeping operation, reports RTE.

“They requested multiple times that the base turn out its lights. The tanks left about 45 minutes later after UNIFIL protested through our liaison mechanism,” reports RTE.

Peacekeepers reported “the firing of several rounds 100 metres (yards) north, which emitted smoke” a little more than two hours later.

Israeli forces, referring to a region in south Lebanon, “stopped a critical UNIFIL logistical movement near Mais al-Jabal, denying it passage” yesterday, according to the force.

According to the Israeli military’s account of events, 25 Israeli soldiers were wounded when Hezbollah fighters launched anti-tank missiles against them, reports RTE.

According to the report, the incident happened extremely near to a UNIFIL station, and when a tank assisted in evacuating the victims while coming under fire, it backed into the position, reports RTE.
