Despite admitting that he “messed up” during last week’s election debate, US President Joe Biden has promised to continue fighting, reports RTE.

After last week’s debate, Mr. Biden declared his intention to beat Republican opponent Donald Trump in November’s presidential election and showed no signs of considering withdrawal following a lacklustre debate performance that shocked his fellow Democrats.

Yesterday, during an appearance on the radio show “The Earl Ingram Show,” Mr. Biden stated: “I made a mistake and I screwed up.” Ninety minutes on stage is that. Observe my accomplishments during the past three and a half years,” reports RTE.

Yesterday, Mr. Biden presented his case to a gathering of Democratic governors at the White House.

California governor Gavin Newsom, whose name is frequently suggested as a rival to Joe Biden, declared on X, a platform that was once Twitter, that he was “all in” for Mr. Biden.

Representative Seth Moulton of Massachusetts cited Mr. Biden’s advanced age as a disadvantage, while Representative Raul Grijalva of Arizona demanded that Mr. Biden withdraw from the contest.

According to Mr. Moulton’s comments, “the unfortunate reality is that the status quo will likely deliver us President Trump.” “President Biden is not going to get younger,” reports RTE.

Mr. Biden paused when asked if his lacklustre performance in last week’s debate with Mr. Trump was a cause for the American people to be concerned.

After the Atlanta debate, Mr. Biden’s already precarious position in public surveys against Mr. Trump suffered a tiny setback; but, a fresh Reuters/Ipsos poll revealed Mr. Biden levelled with Mr. Trump this week, indicating the race is still tight, reports RTE.

In the two-day survey that ended on Tuesday, registered voters gave Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden 40% of the vote apiece. In a previous survey released on June 11–12, Reuters/Ipsos found that Donald Trump led by just 2 percentage points, 41% to 39%.

When his second term finishes, Mr. Biden, who is 81 years old, will be 86. Some of his erstwhile backers are requesting that he stand down in order to protect his legacy and reduce the likelihood of a second Trump administration, reports RTE.
