US president Joe Biden has said Russia will pay a severe price if it uses chemical weapons in Ukraine.
During his usual spluttering, Biden made the warning as Moscow had earlier claimed the US was involved in biological weapons activity inside Ukraine, an allegation strongly denied by American officials.
Elsewhere the Ukrainian president called for more international military amid reports that Russia was expanding its offensive closer to the capital Kiev.
