The Bill introduced by Aontu to reduce TD and Senator salaries by 25% during level 4 and Level 5 Lockdowns has passed it’s first stage.
The Bill, if passed into law would reduce a TD’s salary by over €24,000 and a Senators salary by over €17,000.
Allowances would not be affected.
Party leader and Meath-West deputy Peadar Tóibín says politicians can’t govern if they can’t relate to the crisis.
In the Dail, Peadar Tóibín called the “political class” a “second type of virus”.
He then went on to highlight an €80,000 annual salary increase to a Judges €210,000 current salary and how Fianna Fail defended this increase during the Covid19 crisis.
