A triple birthday celebration for Asian elephant calves Kavi, Ashoka and Samiya is being held in Dublin Zoo this weekend to mark their first birthday. The event will be held this Saturday and Sunday between 11am and 5pm.

The Kaziranga Forest Trail will be home to a massive birthday bash. Music, face-painting, and fun family activities will all be part of the festivities. The elephant care team will also be holding ‘Elephant Encounter’ keeper talks throughout the weekend.

The three calves were born just months apart from one another. The eldest calf, Kavi, was born on 17 July and now weighs 700kg. His brother, Ashoka celebrates his first birthday on Wednesday and weighs 500kg. Little sister Samiya weighs in at 450kg.

Director of Dublin Zoo Leo Oosterweghel said that the calves still amaze him every day.“Their births were such an important occasion both for us at Dublin Zoo and for the international breeding programme. To have three successful births within such a short period of time was simply extraordinary and something we are very proud of.”
