The weekend marked the 100th consecutive night of violence and destruction in Portland, AP News reports.

Protests began in the liberal north western US city following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis in May. Several groups associated with Antifa and Black Lives Matter have led a campaign of protests for months, many of which have resulted in chaos and violence.

In July, Donald Trump dispatched federal authorities to the city after repeated attacks on Portland’s federal courthouse. This led to increased street battles with protestors. Last weekend Aaron Danielson, a right-wing activist, was shot dead by ‘anti-fascist’ Michael Forest Reinhoel who was in turn killed by police on Thursday night.

According to AP News, federal law enforcement may increase their presence in the city to protect its businesses and citizens from an increasingly dangerous and out of control mob.
