A ‘blast’ heard across Paris earlier today turned out to be a sonic boom from a fighter jet flying overhead the city. A sonic boom is a phenomenon that happens when an object moves faster than the speed of sound.
Hundreds of people rang emergency services fearing that the city was under attack after hearing a loud ‘explosion’.
Once the cause of the sound was established, authorities issued messages for people to calm down.
