Up to 550 football matches have been cancelled this weekend due to referees taking a stand against the abuse they say that they’ve been receiving for far too long.
Referees say that they’re getting sworn at, shouted at, screamed at and even in some cases – physically threatened during and after football matches.
Surprisingly, referees say that the vast amount of abuse is coming from parents of young kids, sometimes under the age of 10.
They say that they’ve had to take a stand and that enough is enough, the attitude towards referees has to change and that this is the only way they can make that happen.
