It’s emerged today that the man and child found dead in a house in Dublin on Saturday night are a father and his 6-yr-old daughter.

Gardaí have launched an investigation following the discovery of two bodies at a residence in Finglas, Dublin, on Saturday night.

They were alerted to the incident at a property in the Heathfield estate in Finglas at around 8pm. The estate is a relatively recent development located behind Cappagh Hospital.

Upon arrival, officers found the bodies of an adult man and a child, whom they believe to be related, reports RTE.

It is understood the two were likely a parent and child, with the child believed to be around six years old.

The area has been sealed off, and the services of the State Pathologist have been requested. The Garda Technical Bureau has also been contacted to carry out a detailed forensic investigation, reports RTE.

At present, gardaí are keeping all lines of inquiry open, though there is currently no evidence of forced entry or indications of involvement by a third party.

They emphasized, however, that the investigation is still in its very early stages.

An incident room will be established under the direction of a Senior Investigating Officer, and a family liaison officer will be appointed, reports RTE.
