In the midst of the horrific terrorist attack at Sydney’s Bondi Beach on Sunday, one man’s courage stood out. He name is reportedly (but not confirmed) Ahmed El Ahmad (also reported as Ahmed al Ahmed), a 43-yr-old Muslim father of two and fruit shop owner from Sutherland, emerged as a hero.
During the chaos of the shooting targeting a Hanukkah celebration, viral footage captured Ahmed tackling one of the gunmen from behind. Despite no firearms experience, he wrestled the rifle away in a fierce struggle, briefly aiming it at the disarmed attacker before setting it aside as police arrived.
Ahmed was shot twice—wounds to his arm and hand—but remained conscious, receiving aid from bystanders. He underwent surgery and is recovering well.
His cousin called him “a hero, 100%,” crediting him with saving countless lives. Amid tragedy claiming 12 lives, Ahmed’s actions symbolize unity and bravery transcending divisions.
