“Bonkers economics” at claims that Sinn Fein would build affordable houses and provide affordable rents across Dublin and elsewhere

Some social media users are claiming that Sinn Fein’s housing proposal is more “bonkers economics”.

Sinn Fein has laid out detailed proposals to build affordable houses and provide affordable rents across Dublin and elsewhere.

The party’s spokesperson for housing, Eoin Ó Broin, explained that Sinn Fein would be able to build houses at a price of €230,000 per unit in Dublin, and €220,000 in other locations. These prices are almost €100,000 cheaper than those quoted by Fianna Fail and Fine Gael.

The same proposal includes details about providing affordable rents of between €700 to €900 a month.

According to Mr. O Broin, these savings would be achieved by cutting out ‘middlemen’ from the house building process, and enabling local authorities to work directly with builders.
