Boris Johnson insists the backstop will be scrapped while EU says that is “impossible” Ireland to have hard border of the EU in event of no-deal

The UK’s new Prime Minister Boris Johnson has sated emphatically that unless the so-called ‘Irish backstop’ is scrapped from the Britain’s leaving agreement with the EU there will be a no-deal Brexit on October 31st.
In response to this ultimatum, outgoing European Commission President Jean Claude Junker fired back saying that this will not happen, and it is “impossible” to negotiate the divorce agreement.
PM Johnson purged a number of Remainers from his cabinet and appointed some arch-Brexiters in their place including Jacob Reese Mogg who is now leader of the House of Commons.
The Irish backstop is necessary to keep Ireland free of hard border as it keeps the whole island in regulatory alignment. Should there be hard Brexit however, the Republic of Ireland, under EU law, not Britain will be obliged to impose border checks.
Johnson has already said that under no circumstances will London impose a hard border in Ireland which means that in the event of a no-deal separation of the UK and EU Ireland will have a Brussels imposed hard border.
