A 32-yr-old man has been jailed for 38 months for manslaughter after a botched citizens arrest. Benjamin Hunt, a mechanic, chased Christopher Walters (25) after he took a sledgehammer to an Audi in May 2019 according to the Metro.

Hunt held Mr Walters by the neck, on the ground, for several minutes, using his body weight to pin him down even after Mr Walters lost consciousness. Hunt pleaded guilty to manslaughter last week and received 38 months jail time.

A work colleague of Hunt’s, Jonathan Hassall, who was also involved in the incident, committed suicide just days before he was due to go on trial for manslaughter. The Audi that was attacked by Christopher Walters was owned by Jonathan Hassall’s son. No motive for the sledgehammer attack was given.

Mr Walters’ mother Dawn Price, 58, described the sentence as ‘a joke’.
