Met Eireann has issued a strong warning that “people will be shocked” by the steep decrease in temperatures, indicating that Ireland is about to see a dramatic and abrupt change in weather, reports The Mirror.
The nation is preparing for its first cold snap of the season, with sub-zero temperatures, frost, and snow predicted starting this weekend, following an abnormally balmy start to November.
A unusual nine-day weather alert has been issued by the national forecaster, who predicts a significant change in the weather. The following is the advice, which is valid today until Saturday, November 23: “A transition to significantly colder conditions will take place from Monday, November 18 lasting through much of the week. Wintry hazards including frost and ice are likely with potential for sleet, snow and hail for some,” reports The Mirror.
In addition to this warning, the weather service indicated that alerts would be issued to address the following possible concerns related to this cold snap: dangerous driving conditions, poor visibility during snow showers, and possible transportation delays. The anticipated circumstances have also raised worries about animal welfare.
“After an exceptionally mild start to November, people are going to get quite a shock as the temperatures plummet next week, which is why we have issued an Advisory for Ireland,” said Liz Coleman, deputy head of forecasting for Met Eireann, reports The Mirror.
“Details are uncertain with the exact track of a low-pressure system on Sunday night and during Monday, but at present, some heavy and persistent rain is expected in the west and north with the possibility of some sleet and snow over parts of Ulster on Monday. Met Eireann will be monitoring this situation closely over the weekend,” reports The Mirror.
