A Garda has been praised for his heroics after he bravely rescued a young woman from the River Fergus in Co Clare.
According to reports the incident occurred at approximately 5.30am this morning in the Wood Quay area of Ennis.
It is believed that the Garda patrol unit nearby were alerted about a woman being in distress in the River Fergus, after reaching the scene the brave officer entered the river to save the woman whilst the other Garda called for further assistance.
It is understood that a second woman, believed to be a friend of the victim, also jumped into the water to help, thankfully the woman was brought to safety.
She was later transferred to University Hospital Limerick for treatment.
