With a population of 212 million people, the country is now just behind the United States as the worst effected nation in the pandemic.
Meanwhile controversial President Jair Bolsonaro claims to have a ‘clear conscious’ over his disastrous response to Brazil’s outbreak.
Unlike in other badly hit countries like Spain and Italy, the virus has shown no signs of slowing down in Brazil as it spreads from the urban coastlines
to the inland countryside.
Already an economically and socially dysfunctional state, the virus has highlighted Brazil’s extreme inequalities with the majority of fatalities being in poor communities.
