Brazil has reportedly refused a $20m aid package aimed to help the impoverished country tackle the huge fires currently raging across the Amazonian rainforest.
The money, which was pledged by a number of countries during the recent G7 economic summit, is not likely to be accepted, according to an official communication issued by Brazilian authorities.
It is understood that the Brazilian President, Jair Bolsonaro, rejected the offer on the basis that it would mean ‘an attack on the country’s sovereignty.’
Meanwhile, a huge area of the rainforest has already burned, with no end of the devastation in sight.
