A community in County Clare is in mourning following the tragic death of a 16-year-old boy in a single-vehicle road accident involving a tractor.
The collision occurred on the R458 at Bunnahow, a rural stretch located just north of Crusheen. Emergency services, including Gardaà and paramedics, rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, the teenager was pronounced dead a short time later, reports RTE.
The boy was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Following the arrival of the coroner, his remains were transferred to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where a post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place.
As of today, the R458 remains closed to traffic. Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are currently on-site conducting a detailed technical examination to determine the cause of the crash. Local diversions have been established, and motorists are advised to avoid the area between Gort and Crusheen.
Gardaà have launched an appeal for information and are urging anyone who may have been in the vicinity at the time of the incident to contact them.
Investigating officers are particularly interested in speaking with:
Eyewitnesses: Anyone who observed the tractor or the collision itself.
Motorists with Dash-cams: Any road users who were traveling on the R458 between Gort and Crusheen around the time of the crash and may have captured footage.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Ennis Garda Station at 065 6848100, the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 66-61-11, or any Garda station nationwide.
This incident marks another somber addition to the road fatality statistics this year, prompting renewed calls for safety on rural roads.
