An eruption has started in the huge Icelandic volcano of Fagradalsfjall. This is stated in an announcement from the Meteorological Bureau, but only minor disturbances are observed with the seismometers. The Coast Guard helicopter is en route to the volcano to try and determine how bad things could get.
According to the Icelandic Meteorological Service, police are on their way from Keflavík to assess the situation.
People near a possible eruption area said they saw light from the area and the news agency received similar suggestions. Cameras in the area show clear red light in the sky.
The Coast Guard helicopter will take off in the next few minutes to investigate the situation. This story is developing.
