Authorities in Spain have confirmed that at least two people have been killed and several others have been injured following an explosion at a building in the centre of Madrid.
According to local media reports the large explosion which occurred on Toledo Street caused extensive damage to the building and further widespread damage in the area.
It is understood that a number of firefighters and Emergency personnel are at the scene which is located near a school and a nursing home.
Spanish media are reporting that all residents at the nursing facility have been evacuated safely and there has been no damage to the nearby school.
It is not yet known what caused the explosion but it is reported that it may have occurred due to a gas leak.
