The Catholic Church is celebrating a historic moment as Blessed Carlo Acutis gets canonised as the first millennial saint in a vibrant ceremony at St. Peter’s Square, presided over by Pope Leo XIV. Alongside Acutis, Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati was also declared a saint, marking a significant event for young Catholics worldwide during the 2025 Jubilee Year.

Carlo Acutis, born in 1991 in London and raised in Milan, died of leukemia in 2006 at the age of 15. Known for his deep devotion to the Eucharist and his tech-savvy approach to faith, Acutis earned the title “God’s Influencer” by creating a website documenting Eucharistic miracles, which has inspired Catholics globally. His canonization follows the recognition of two miracles attributed to his intercession: the healing of a Brazilian child in 2013 and a Costa Rican woman in 2024 who recovered from severe head trauma after prayers at his tomb in Assisi.

The ceremony, attended by thousands of young pilgrims, highlighted Acutis’ relatable life as a teenager who loved video games, coding, and helping the homeless, while remaining steadfast in his faith. “Carlo shows us holiness is possible in the digital age,” said Pope Leo XIV during the Mass, emphasising his appeal to Generation Z.

Acutis’ canonization, originally scheduled for April 27 but postponed after Pope Francis’ death, underscores his growing influence, with schools and ministries named in his honor worldwide. His relics in Assisi continue to draw pilgrims, and his story resonates as a model of modern sanctity.

EWTN broadcast the event live, offering global viewers a chance to witness this milestone, with special programs exploring Acutis’ life and legacy. As the “Patron Saint of the Internet,” St. Carlo Acutis inspires a new generation to blend faith with technology.
