Storm Lorenzo is just hours away from Ireland and it might not be safe for children to go to school.
The Department of Education have now advised all schools to err on the side of caution ahead of the incoming storm Lorenzo.
It’s not understood that all schools across the country have been given permission to close schools at their own discretion.
Text messages services have been put in place and parents will be issued alerts in the communities if their local school will be closed, however it’s very heavily emphasised that parents consult other parents in case they don’t get a message themselves.
In the statement the Department said the safety of children and staff is paramount and any decision to close schools will be made following further weather updates.
