Widespread power cuts, flooding and some damage is expected to occur later today as Storm Lorenzo will batter Ireland.
In a warning issued the country’s national forecaster Met Eireann say strong winds and heavy rainfall is expected to arrive in the South and West of the country.
The warning for widespread disruption comes as an Orange status wind warning has been issued for counties Mayo, Galway, Clare, Kerry, Cork and Limerick, whilst a Yellow status warning has been issued to the rest of the country.
Although the warnings could be upgraded to a red status warning, Met Eireann say widespread power cuts are expected as well storm surges which has potential to cause localised flooding.
Forecasters say winds are expected to reach 65-80km/h, with gusts of 100-130km/h, Met Eireann say the strong winds could potentially cause trees to fall and may well cause significant damage to power lines.
