Gardai have announced that the bodies of a man and boy found in Dublin today are that of 48-yr-old Wayne O’Reilly and his 11-yr-old son, Oisin.
Gardai say that they are now working off an assumption that this was a murder-suicide.
Gardaà are investigating the discovery of the bodies of a man in his 40s and an 11-yr-old boy at separate homes in west Dublin.
According to RTÉ reports, emergency services were called to a house in Cherry Orchard, Ballyfermot, at around 8:30am on January 8, 2026, where the man’s body was found in the back garden.
The boy’s body was subsequently discovered at a house in Clondalkin.
It is believed the deceased are father and son, who had previously been reported missing for a short period last year before being located safe and well.
Gardaà suspect the child died violently and that the man may have taken his own life afterwards, though post-mortem examinations will determine the exact course of the investigation.
Both scenes have been preserved for forensic examination, with the man’s body removed to the city morgue and the boy’s remaining at the Clondalkin scene.
The Office of the State Pathologist has been requested to assist.
