The Office of the State Pathologist has been notified and a post-mortem examination is expected to take place.

A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene and is being held at a Garda station in the Waterford Division under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

The scene remains preserved for a technical examination. A senior investigating officer has been appointed to lead the inquiry, and an incident room has been set up at Waterford Garda Station. A Family Liaison Officer has also been assigned to support the deceased woman’s family.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses. They are particularly keen to speak with anyone who was in the Grange Heights area between 6pm and 6:30pm, or who may have CCTV or dash-cam footage from the area at that time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051 305300, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 66-61-11, or any Garda station.

Gardai say major investigations are ongoing.
