
A body was recovered after a teenage boy was reported missing while swimming near Laytown Beach, Co Meath, this evening. A group of teenagers were  swimming in the River Nanny under the Laytown footbridge when a member of the public reported the missing boy shortly before 6:15pm.
The Irish Coast Guard Rescue 116 helicopter from Dublin arrived within 25 minutes, followed by the Drogheda Coast Guard Unit.
The boy’s body was recovered by the Coast Guard after 9:30pm and the boy was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan for a post-mortem examination. Gardaà have requested that the public refrain from sharing videos or images of the incident online.
