Gardai have confirmed that a tragic incident occurred in Co Westmeath where a young boy lost his life after being struck by a vehicle. The accident took place in Farranshock Estate, Mullingar, just after 6:30 pm yesterday evening.
Emergency services attended to the boy at the scene before rushing him to Regional Hospital Mullingar via ambulance. Despite efforts, he was sadly pronounced deceased at the hospital. The coroner has been informed, and a post-mortem is scheduled to be conducted.
Garda Forensic Collision Investigators are currently examining the preserved scene. Authorities are requesting witnesses to the incident to come forward.
They are also asking road users or pedestrians present in the area during that time, who may have camera footage such as dash-cam recordings, to provide it to the gardaí.
