BREAKING: Gordon Elliott banned from racing for 12 months, final 6 months suspended

In breaking news this evening, Gordon Elliott has been slapped with a 12 month ban from racing with the final 6 months suspended after he was photographed sitting on top of a dead horse.

It’s understood that Elliott cannot attend a race meeting for 6 months with the ban commencing on March 9th 2021.

Earlier this week, there had been widespread outrage at a despicable image that’s been widely shared on social media showing one of Ireland’s most famous horse trainers Gordon Elliott sitting on a dead horse.

Jockey Ruby Walsh has described the image as “indefensible” claiming he feels “embarrassed for the sport” of racing as a result.

BetFair have pulled their ties to Elliott who has apologised for the image after many people queried whether or not it was real.

It’s now being investigated by the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board (IHRB).

The fallout of the photo could be detrimental to the sport as a whole, with many claiming that those working with horses treat them like dirt and this image would do little to sway that opinion.

Many people on social media are calling for Elliott to be banned from the sport.
