People had feared that a vaccine had been rushed out and not properly tested, and it would appear that their concerns have been proven right.
Over 110,000 Irish people have taken the AstraZeneca vaccine, but as of today, it has been suspended in Ireland.
Acccording ro BreakingNews.ie, in a statement, the deputy chief medical officer, Dr Ronan Glynn, said: “This recommendation has been made following a report from the Norwegian Medicines Agency of four new reports of serious blood clotting events in adults after vaccination with Covid-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca.
“It has not been concluded that there is any link between the COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca® and these cases. However, acting on the precautionary principal, and pending receipt of further information, the NIAC has recommended the temporary deferral of the COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca vaccination programme in Ireland.”
We reported this week that the European Medicines Agency (EMA) said “there was no evidence so far linking AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine to illnesses in two people who received it in Austria” and that the EMA statement was made before an Austrian investigation into blood clotting after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine concluded.
According to Breakingnews.ie, the European Medicines Agency (EMA) were not immediately available for comment as DENMARK announced that they will be suspending the AstraZeneca vaccine for two weeks whilst they carry out investigations into blood clots. Denmark report that there has been one known death from a blood clot where the patient received the vaccine.
Soren Brostrom, Director of the Danish Health Authority said “Both we and the Danish Medicines Agency have to respond to reports of possible serious side-effects, both from Denmark and other European countries.”
