The Government has postponed an increase in the Carbon Tax from next month until October as part of new measures announced today.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin, Tánaiste Simon Harris and junior transport minister Sean Canney unveiled the package following a week of blockades at fuel depots.
The new scheme includes the following:
– The cut in excise duty will be extended until June.
– Petrol will be reduced by 10 cent.
– Diesel will be reduced by 10 cent.
– Green diesel will be reduced by 2.4 cent, all from midnight on Tuesday.
– A fuel subsidy for farming and fisheries will also be introduced.
Martin said nobody had the right to block ports and fuel depots, and that the action had been taken by a group with a self-declared mandate.
However, already many protesters are saying that the package is not enough.
