The St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Letterkenny, scheduled to take place this afternoon, has been cancelled due to a serious incident overnight. Two men were hospitalized after being struck by a car, affecting the parade route and prompting the Letterkenny Chamber of Commerce to call off the event for safety and logistical reasons.
Set for 3:00 PM, the parade was to feature local groups like sports clubs, dance studios, and schools, aligning with One Donegal Social Inclusion Week. Pre-parade activities included live music and a photo booth. Road closures planned from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM along Main Street and Port Road are now impacted by the incident response.
The cancellation disappoints residents and businesses expecting a busy day. The Chamber expressed gratitude to participants and may consider future alternatives, though no plans are confirmed.
