Sadiq Khan won another term as mayor of London after beating his conservative rival Shaun Bailey. The results seemed tight at first before the Labour incumbent took a five-point lead on Saturday afternoon and eventually won it outright late on Saturday night.
The contest was much closer than expected considering some in Bailey’s own party ruled it out, while a Labour source said turnout and complacency could be an issue. But Khan was virtually guaranteed a second term after occupying Barnet and Camden, an annex Bailey had to hand over to give the Conservatives hope of a comeback.
Khan is said to be a left leaning politician and has a very strong base likewise has strong opposition.
