
The man who died following a fatal assault in Ardara has been named locally as prominent businessman Stephen McCahill, reports Ocean FM.
Mr McCahill, who was in his 60s, was pronounced dead at the scene, which has been sealed off for technical examinations.
Gardaà responded to reports of the alleged assault outside Ardara shortly before 4am on Monday morning.
Stephen McCahill was a former Donegal Person of the Year in 2016 and stood as an Independent candidate in the 2011 General Election.
He was a dedicated community activist, deeply involved in local sport and enterprise.
A man in his 30s is currently in custody in connection with the incident.
Gardaà at Ballyshannon station are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.
