Breaking: Met Eireann extend Status Orange weather warning until at least midday today

The national emergency coordination group have decided that the status orange weather warning needs to be extended from 9am this morning until at least midday today.

It’s understood that the decision was made after much lying snow and ice makes many roads and paths treacherous and even impassable in places.

A Status Yellow snow and ice warning has also been put in place for Connacht and parts of the north west until at least midday today.

Met Eireann downgraded their Status Red weather warning to Orange for Munster, Leinster, Cavan and Monaghan late yesterday evening but have urged people not to take any risks and slips and falls could happen now the thaw has arrived.

The national forecaster will review the weather status later this morning.
