Met Éireann have confirmed that the status Red weather warning will remain in place in Leinster and Munster until 6pm on Friday.
It is understood the national forecaster decided to extend the warning after reviewing the latest weather charts.
Met Eireann say the warning will remain in place as further snowfall and heavy wind is expected throughout the day on Friday.
They also urge the public living in red alert regions to stay indoors until the storm passes.
