Panic buying had started over the past week, but it really has taken hold since midday in the wake of the Taoiseach announcing that the country is going into partial lockdown.
Schools, colleges and other non-essential entities are all closing and people have flocked to Lidl, Tesco, Aldi and Dunnes to stock up.
The government says that there really is no need to panic buy and that they’ve been assured by supermarket chains that they can remain well stocked up.
