
A man in his 50s has lost his life after being hit by a car in County Offaly, reports RTE.
The incident took place shortly after 11pm last night on the N62 at Killeenboy, Cloghan. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
His remains were transported to Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore, where a post-mortem examination is due to be carried out, reports RTE.
No additional injuries have been reported.
The road remains closed to allow for a technical investigation, and traffic diversions have been implemented, reports RTE.
Gardaà are seeking witnesses, especially motorists who may have camera recordings (including dash-cam footage) from the area between 10pm and 11.30pm. Anyone with information is urged to contact Birr Garda Station on 057 9169710, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station.
This incident brings the total number of road fatalities in Ireland to 68 this year, including 21 pedestrians, reports RTE.
