An investment of €1.5 million is being made in Ireland’s tourism industry to promote the country as the “Home of Halloween”, reports The Mirror.
A collaborative initiative by Louth and Meath county councils is among five chosen to receive backing under Fáilte Ireland’s new Home of Halloween Pilot Destination Development Scheme.
Their efforts will centre around the ancient legends of the Boyne Valley, highlighting it as the Global Birthplace of Halloween Celebrations, reports The Mirror.
Minister for Enterprise, Tourism and Employment, Peter Burke, revealed that €1.5 million will be allocated over the course of three years.
This move is part of the “Ireland, Home of Halloween Strategy,” designed to position Ireland as the true global origin of a festival now enjoyed worldwide.
It is anticipated that the supported projects will bring in an extra 270,000 visitors within three years, contribute €17 million to local communities, and help sustain over 500 jobs, both directly and indirectly, reports The Mirror.
