SSE Airtricity will raise its standard variable electricity prices by 9.5% starting next month, adding approximately €150 to the average customer’s annual bill.
This marks the company’s second price hike this year, following a 10.5% increase in electricity and an 8.4% rise in gas prices in April. As a result, SSE Airtricity’s 460,000 electricity customers in Ireland will face a 20% cumulative bill increase in 2025. Gas customers will see no price change.
The increase, effective 20 October, is attributed to higher network and system operator charges, ongoing wholesale market volatility, and increased business costs. Other major energy suppliers, including Bord Gáis Energy, Energia, and Pinergy, recently announced similar electricity price hikes.
