GardaĆ have said that a man they want to speak to in connection with the murder of a 43-year-old woman in Kerry earlier this week has fled the country.

It is believed he took a bus from Killarney in the early hours of Tuesday morning and flew out of Dublin Airport to the Middle East, where he is originally from, reports RTE.

Jamey Carney, the mother of a teenage girl, was found dead at her home in Killarney last Tuesday.

Detectives believe she was attacked and killed some time before her body was discovered in an upstairs room at the house on the Muckross Road, reports RTE.

The post-mortem examination to establish the cause and time of Ms Carney’s death has been completed but the results are not being released.

GardaĆ contacted international law enforcement agencies, including Interpol and Europol, after they discovered the man — whom they describe as a significant person of interest — had left the country, reports RTE.

The man knew Ms Carney, and gardaĆ believe he may have information that can assist them in the murder investigation.

GardaĆ in Killarney have described a timeframe of between 11pm on Monday night and 5am Tuesday as being of relevance to the murder investigation, reports RTE.

They are examining CCTV and dashcam footage from that period — the time the man is believed to have left Kerry.

They have also been in contact with airline and transport authorities, reports RTE.

The Garda National Immigration Bureau is also assisting the investigation in building up a profile of the man and how he came to be in Ireland.

It is believed he first arrived in the UK and spent some time there before coming to Kerry, and gardaĆ have been in contact with the police and immigration authorities there, reports RTE.

Ms Carney, who was originally from New York, moved to Kerry in 2021 and has been remembered as a kind and loving person who had a positive disposition in her dealings with others.

She worked locally and was very involved in the local community, reports RTE.

Ms Carney is survived by a teenage daughter and family members in the United States.
