Storm Bram has begun its assault on Ireland, bringing persistent heavy rain and strengthening southerly winds as it tracks northward from the Atlantic. At this early hour, the system is centered southwest of the country, with southeast winds veering southerly and freshening to 23 km/h, gusting up to 43 km/h in many areas. Precipitation stands at 0.7 mm per hour, part of a broader band of thundery downpours spreading from the south, already saturating soils in Munster and Leinster.Met Éireann reports a high risk of localized flooding, particularly in low-lying regions where rivers like the Lee and Suir are swelling rapidly.

Coastal areas in Cork and Waterford face initial threats from onshore gusts coinciding with high tides, potentially leading to minor inundation. No widespread disruptions have been recorded yet, but transport authorities advise caution on rural roads due to standing water. Power networks remain stable, though isolated outages are possible in exposed western spots.

As the storm intensifies overnight, winds are forecast to build toward gale force by dawn, with hourly gusts climbing to 52 km/h around 2:00 AM. Rainfall totals could exceed 10 mm by morning, exacerbating flood risks in south Kerry and Tipperary. The entire island is under a yellow warning for wet and windy conditions, with the system expected to veer westerly later today, prolonging impacts through the afternoon. Residents in vulnerable southern counties are urged to monitor river levels closely, as saturated ground amplifies dangers. This marks the start of a multi-day event, with clearance not anticipated until December 11.
