A Status Red wind warning has been extended to encompass 22 counties across Ireland, as Met Éireann cautions about potential “danger to life” due to “damaging and destructive” winds from Storm Éowyn.
In response to the red level alert, schools, early learning, childcare facilities, and further and higher education institutions in the affected areas will close for the duration of the warning, according to the National Emergency Co-ordination Group (NECG).
The NECG also advises that employers in these areas should “facilitate working from home” for employees capable of doing so, and only “emergency service workers” should travel for work, reports RTE.
The Status Red wind warning will be in effect from:
-
2am to 10am for Cork, Kerry, and Limerick.
-
3am to midday for Clare and Galway.
-
4am to midday for Leitrim, Mayo, and Sligo.
-
6am to midday for Cavan, Monaghan, Dublin, Kildare, Laois, Longford, Louth, Meath, Offaly, Westmeath, Wicklow, Roscommon, and Tipperary.
-
6am to 3pm for Donegal.
There’s also a risk of wave overtopping and coastal flooding in low-lying and exposed coastal regions during this period.
