The race was halted, and an air ambulance transported O’Sullivan to Cork University Hospital, where he remained in intensive care until his death in the early hours of this morning, surrounded by family.

The Irish Horse Racing Regulatory Board (IHRB) confirmed his passing, with CEO Darragh O’Loughlin describing O’Sullivan as an “exceptionally talented young rider who will be deeply missed by everyone in racing who knew him”, reports RTE.

Other tributes were paid by IHRB Chief Medical Officer Dr Jennifer Pugh, highlighting his “dedication, modesty, and kind nature,” noting that his success and humility inspired many. She added that O’Sullivan’s family expressed gratitude for the support from the local and racing communities, the national broadcaster reports.
